The exercise this week was different than any exercise yet! I
loved how there was just little talk and mostly having us concentrate on our
own breathing to help relax the mind from running 100mph. I absolutely loved
this exercise and it is my favorite out of all the ones we have had to do. This
exercise was extremely beneficial and I plan on using the subtle mind exercise more
often because it actually works.
When it comes to comparing and contrast between the Loving
Kindness and Subtle mind exercise I found that both were quite different such
as how the loving kindness wanted us to concentrate on compassion where as
Subtle mind wanted us to concentrate on one thing the entire exercise.
I did not have any frustrations with Subtle mind exercise at
all it was wonderful and I enjoyed it completely.
The connection between the spiritual wellness, mental and physical
wellness is learning to control each within ourselves. Having all three
balanced is what will benefit us the most when going through a condition that
is incurable or even a stressful event. I believe the connection is manifested
in my personal life by doing an exercise of each rotating between the three and
when I am having a bit more stressful day I do all three exercises to help
boost me to become more balance.
Donna,
ReplyDeleteFirst I enjoy reading your post and discussion boards because I too struggle with some of the things you do. When I found Yoga my love with it was learning to breath . The yogi master I started with pointed out to me through much of my normal activity I held my breath in short increments. I look at the breathing in meditation as practice. As with anything you do it enough it becomes habit. I can work with either type of meditation and found benefits in both although I too can get distracted as you did in the loving kindness commentary. I think you have to find what works best for you. It appears you are on the right track doing this. Keep up the great work.

Hello Donna,
ReplyDeleteYour discussion blog was very informative and concise. I enjoyed both exercises, but was overwhelmed by the loving kindness exercise. This exercise was an eye-opener to me as I thought no one loved me especially my mother. Everyday is a struggle for me, but with the loving kindness exercise I am learning to love myself despite all the odds. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subtle mind.
Hi Donna,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this weeks’ exercise as well. I like the sound of the ocean and flutes. It’s very soothing to me. It was nice how she left more than enough time for you to practice. I found no frustrations with this particular exercise. I’m just glad it was the ladies voice instead of the man; he sounds so boring. I also like the fact that the focus was basically on learning to focus. I believe a lot of people have trouble with that.
Even before this class, I realized there is a true connection between spiritual, mental and physical. For example, when some people are stressed they become tense in the shoulders. Some people are unable to focus or even experience headache form lack of sleep. From personal experience, I was able to conquer depression through a combination of prayer, meditation, a change of perception and fresh air and my nature runs.
Hi Donna,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed this weeks exercise, as I did too! I never new how truly relaxing and therapeutic meditation could be. Being able to allow my thoughts and stress drift in and out and to finally be replaced by stillness was amazing. I agree that practicing these techniques will definitely help strengthen the mind. I struggled about with the Love and Kindness because I've never truly thought about loving myself the way that exercise focuses on. I'm sure i'll learn to get better at this with practice though!
