Loving Kindness! Unit 4

I did not like this exercise at all! I feel as though the woman saying this was a robot with no compassion. I feel if you are wanting others to do what you do then you should show them how by doing so yourself. She had no love or compassion within her heart when stating the things to do so I did not find this exercise beneficial at all and it was difficult to do as she said when I was concentrating on her. I would not recommend this exercise to others because I do not recommend things that do not work for me as it leaves room it may not work for them.

The concept of mental workout is to train the brain and once the brain is trained it becomes easier and easier to go back to the spot you are in when in the mental workout. I can implement mental workouts to foster my psychological health by doing training once a week to start off with and record my thoughts and how I feel before and after I do the workout. Set a date and time each week on my cell-phone to keep track and stay on schedule.

  1. Donna,
Its too bad that you didn’t get benefit from this exercise. I have to admit that the male voice was a bit better then the female voice in this exercise. With that said I did get complete relaxation in this exercise and was able to nap right afterward. It may have been the waves in the background because I do prefer the ocean and get most peace when I’m out west on the beach.
I agree with you that there needs to be a routine in the exercises that are done each day or week. You made a good suggestion by setting the date and time in your phone to complete the exercises.

  2. Hello Donna,

I too did not benefit form this exercise much. I on the other hand would tens up every time the male voice would speak. Not a good relaxing voice at all. The female voice was fine and I would start to relax and then his shrieking voice would runen it for me. Which leads me to a point i was thinking. You know how if you are mad at someone you can say nasty things to them but if it is in a calm quite voice it doesn't come across as being mean. Well is it the same with this exercise. Lets say I really liked the female voice and it put me in a very relaxed state and she said negative things like I'm a bad person and I am selfish and to hate others. Do you think that this would also be a type of training the brain in a negative way? Also how effective would it be? Would I be miserable to people and not know why? Would this even be possible? Like a form of brainwashing? What are your thought?

  3. I do see where this woman sounding robotic could be distracting. I sometimes like a guided meditation to keep me focused. Sometimes I like to guide myself in order to deeper train my brain. I think working past her sound and focusing on the matter at hand could become part of the focus and training.
