Unit 10 Blog!

In unit 3 I scored myself on physical well-being as a 5, spiritually as a 9 and psychological well-being as an 8. When I score myself now I find my spiritual and psychological well-being has stayed the same however my physical well-being has gone up to about a 7. I say this because I have introduced more physical activity to my daily routines than I used to do. Now my spiritual and psychological has sustained because on a spiritual level I want to learn more about other cultures and practices which will make my score higher in time giving me something to achieve as well as my psychological well-being.

The goals I made for myself in unit 3 for my physical wellbeing was to jog around my town for a half an hour a day after dinner time as well as adding some sit ups in the morning each day after eating breakfast.

Spiritual goals were to continue to meditate daily as well as pray but do it a bit more often such as once every other day while listening to my pan flute.

Psychological wellbeing goals was how I needed to work on is how to love and honor myself as I am my own worst critique and I do not give myself enough credit as I find if I do I would be taking time away from helping someone else and I feel this is the one thing I need to work on. My goal will be everyday to tell myself something nice to myself and learn to cope with others that also express their kind words to me.

I have added jogging into my daily routine, I pray every night and meditate three times a week, and I write down every day something nice about myself and I have found that I am so much more well balanced as a person since I have done so. I am very proud of myself and the accomplishments I have done and will continue to do. So yes I have made progress towards my goals and I have implemented the activities I said I would in each three areas and I am now adding more goals which include doing yoga three times a week, looking up different cultures and learning about them while keeping an open mind, and continue to do mental exercises as well as write in my journal about positive things within myself.

My personal experience about this course is how wonderful it is and how I think this course should be added in high school for every youth to really find themselves and balance out their psychological, spiritual, and physical well-being. I think this world would be a better place if we did because it helps show you no matter what you go through you can continue to be a wonderful human being you just have to train your mind.

The rewarding part has been being balanced and being pain free for 8 week’s of this course and I cannot express my gratitude for this. The difficult part of this course was seeing the good in myself when before all I saw was flaws and mistakes and hatred towards myself and it took me a few weeks of this course to understand I can be a wonderful person and that I must love myself before I can love others.

This experience has improved my ability to assist others because I have hands on experience as to what a person needs to do to overcome themselves since sometimes we are our own worst enemy. Knowing this I can now assist others that may feel the same way as well as showing them techniques they can do on their own to help them as it has for me.

Unit 9 Blog!

It is important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically because if they cannot learn to develop it on their own then they will have a hard time practicing on patients that need care within this field especially the Complementary Alternative Medicine practice. However everyone trying to help patients including Western Medicine should do this. Professionals in health and wellness field should always incorporate integral health practices into their own lives before treating patients so they can have the best knowledge they can to help every patient in their own unique way.

The area I need to help develop stronger is psychologically and learning to control my mind from thinking hundred miles per hour as well as concentrating on one thing at a time. I am very good at spiritually keeping myself balanced as well as physically as I do exercises to help out daily.

I scored my wellness as an 8 because even though I do my best to listen to my body I do think I could grow more in this area, I score my spiritually as a 10 because of how I meditate frequently as well as pray and I know I am completely balanced in this area as it is one of my strong points. I scored my physically as a 7 I do exercises and eat properly however I could add more exercise in my daily activities. I scored my psychological state of mind a 6. I scored this low because I need to train myself to love myself as well as to stop thinking negative about myself. I am fine with always thinking positive in bad situations and moving on from it however, I have a problem thinking highly of myself as well as how to train my mind to concentrate on one task at a time therefore I need a lot of work in this area.

One goal I have for physical is to add two exercises to my daily activities such as jogging after dinner as well as crunches. A goal I have for psychological health is to do a mental exercise three times a week to begin with than in time I will lower it to two and one time a week once I get to the point I am happier with myself. One goal I have for spiritual is to learn about other cultures I have not experienced before to give me a broader view of other people’s views and spectrum so when I do become a Health care provider I will understand where their spirit level is at.

Strategies I can implement to foster growth in physical is take a yoga class and learn to stretch my body and once I have learned how to do some of the strategies in yoga class I can then continue to do it on my own time and place. The second example of an exercise will be jogging after dinner which will give me alone time, help me physically, and also exert extra hormones that my body makes throughout the day. I will implement these examples by writing it on the calendar and making an appointment for a yoga class as I research which instructor I would like to help me.

Two strategies I can implement to foster my growth in psychological is doing mind exercises three times a week and write a sentence every day of something positive about myself. I really want to continue to do the mind exercises which I have found on YouTube and will continue to do this. I also believe I need to more training on how to see myself as something wonderful rather than a no body that will never be good enough for even me. I believe this will help me in the mental aspect that I lack severely. I will implement these two strategies by setting an alarm for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to do my mental exercise in the morning and another alarm set to write something positive about myself. I believe this will help implement a better psychological health.

Two strategies I can implement for spiritual is once a week look up different cultures that I have never experienced before as well as continue to see things in an open-minded positive way. I do not have much in this area I do not do however like with anything in life I can always do better by continuing to learn new things and educating myself on every possibility of life.

I will assess my progress or progress I need to continue working on by making journals every day. This will help me with how I feel, where I am at as well as what I need to work more on. Strategies I can use to assist in maintaining my long term practices for health and wellness will be; to giving myself positive reinforcements to help myself continue fostering my growth, and having hope that there is a light at the end of tunnel  and I will be a great person when I am fully balanced and harmony within myself.

Sublte Mind & Meditation

The two most beneficial for me is subtle mind and meditation. I have a lot of compassion more so than I probably should because I get stomped on when helping others but found it’s my fault for allowing it for being compassion and loving so I do not feel I need to learn this. I am an excellent visualizer, I have been doing it since I was a little girl so I do not benefit from this however, I do benefit using subtle mind that helps me focus on one thing rather than a million as well as meditation since this also helps me from over analyzing situations and using my brain all day and night with pointless thoughts.

It’s not how I can implement these practices because I have and I will continue to since I have found a way to help eliminate pointless thoughts by doing the subtle mind and meditation. I am saving these two exercises and I will continue to train my brain each week as I have been.

Meeting Aesclepius

I like how we can choose who we want giving it more of a personal feel to the meditation. I also like the long stretch of silence to really get a grasp of things. I was able to relax completely and clear everything within my mind. Meditation has fostered an increase in my psychological and spiritual wellness because it has given me positive thinking, clearer mind throughout the day, and less exhausted after mediating, and overall makes me feel wonderful each week to do so. I can continue to work on applying this even after this class by going on youtube and finding a good mindful exercise and doing so once a week.

To me the saying “One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself” (Dacher, 2006) is how a person cannot tell another where to go if he himself has never experienced it because you do not know what can and cannot happen. This applies in the health and wellness profession for those that do not practice what they preach so they do not know how it can work and give advice accordingly. I do believe I have an obligation to my clients to develop my health psychologically, physically, and spiritually because if I am not balanced how can I have my patients the same way?

I can implement psychological and spiritual growth in my personal life by continuing to do mindful exercises especially when I start to feel stressed however I should be doing it once a week seeing as the difference it has made in just 7 weeks and how it can get stronger and better.

Assessment Plan/Loving Kindness Exercise!

While repeating the Loving Kindness exercise I found that I have already thought of this within my heart however, repeating it let me know that I am a good person for doing so.

The area of growth and development I need to work on is the mental fitness. I lack the ability to control the running thoughts within my mind and I would like to grab a hold of it so I am not running negative thoughts within it when I should be thinking positive or nothing at all.

Some exercises I can do to help foster greater wellness is by doing the mental fitness exercise as well as the centering prayer by thinking of one word over and over again to help me control on thinking just one thought rather than 10 at a time.

Subtle Mind Exercise!

The exercise this week was different than any exercise yet! I loved how there was just little talk and mostly having us concentrate on our own breathing to help relax the mind from running 100mph. I absolutely loved this exercise and it is my favorite out of all the ones we have had to do. This exercise was extremely beneficial and I plan on using the subtle mind exercise more often because it actually works.

When it comes to comparing and contrast between the Loving Kindness and Subtle mind exercise I found that both were quite different such as how the loving kindness wanted us to concentrate on compassion where as Subtle mind wanted us to concentrate on one thing the entire exercise.

I did not have any frustrations with Subtle mind exercise at all it was wonderful and I enjoyed it completely.

The connection between the spiritual wellness, mental and physical wellness is learning to control each within ourselves. Having all three balanced is what will benefit us the most when going through a condition that is incurable or even a stressful event. I believe the connection is manifested in my personal life by doing an exercise of each rotating between the three and when I am having a bit more stressful day I do all three exercises to help boost me to become more balance.

Loving Kindness! Unit 4

I did not like this exercise at all! I feel as though the woman saying this was a robot with no compassion. I feel if you are wanting others to do what you do then you should show them how by doing so yourself. She had no love or compassion within her heart when stating the things to do so I did not find this exercise beneficial at all and it was difficult to do as she said when I was concentrating on her. I would not recommend this exercise to others because I do not recommend things that do not work for me as it leaves room it may not work for them.

The concept of mental workout is to train the brain and once the brain is trained it becomes easier and easier to go back to the spot you are in when in the mental workout. I can implement mental workouts to foster my psychological health by doing training once a week to start off with and record my thoughts and how I feel before and after I do the workout. Set a date and time each week on my cell-phone to keep track and stay on schedule.

Unit 2 Journey of Relaxation!

I want to welcome you to my blog. I appreciate you taking the time to read my thoughts on this journey on relaxation.

I look forward to reading everyone's blog entry!

While listening to Journey of Relaxation I actually had to listen to it three times to fully comprehend and relax just as it had said.

I felt in the first two times of listening to it that my mind was still going all over the place and not able to concentrate and feel the peace within myself.

Finally by the third time I was able to sit here with a blank mind and allow my blood to flow through my complete body and being able to control where the blood flows
I loved how the narrator had a gentle relaxing voice which did help a lot when relaxing.
All and all I loved how relaxing it made me feel even though it took three times to listen and become completely relaxed however, I feel more energized because of it and I decided to do this right after hosting my sons 6th birthday party so relaxing was much needed.

Unit 3 Physical, Spiritual, and Psychological well-being!

Rating Reflection-

When it comes to on a scale of 1 to 10 on my own reflection I would rate

  1. Physical wellbeing as a 5
  2. Spiritual well-being as a 9
  3. Psychological well-being as an 8

I feel as though my strong point is in spiritual and I did not rate it as a 10 because I feel as a human there is always room for improvement. My least and one I need to work a bit more on is my physical well-being and exercise a bit more. I am not over weight and in fact I’m quite skinny however, I lack the exercise that is needed on a daily basis and I believe it is because I am not organized with my schedule to add in exercises like I should. Psychological needs more work because I am for everyone else before myself and I know that is a good thing to help others but I need to balance for myself as well.

 Goals-

When it comes to goals to set up for physical wellbeing I could jog around my town for a half an hour a day after dinner time as well as adding some sit ups in the morning each day after eating breakfast.

Spiritual goals will be to continue to meditate daily as well as pray but do it a bit more often such as once every other day while listening to my pan flute.

Psychological wellbeing  goals I need to work on is how to love and honor myself as I am my own worst critique and I do not give myself enough credit as I find if I do I would be taking time away from helping someone else and I feel this is the one thing I need to work on. My goal will be everyday to tell myself something nice to myself and learn to cope with others that also express their kind words to me.

Some activities I could implement in my life to assist in moving towards my goals are to write them down on the calendar as well as giving myself positive reinforcements for doing each goal.

The Crime of the Century-

While completing The Crime of the Century I enjoyed listening and learning where the colors of chakra are located so I found this exercise beneficial. I think it could have been even better if he discussed the foods to eat within each region and color rather than naming things from a house such as windows and doors.

Blog for Unit 1

Hello,

It is nice to meet everyone and I look forward to blogging with everyone this term!
